BIOGRAPHY

The Spanish flutist, Rocío Bolaños del Pozo, based in The Netherlands, combines her activity as an orchestral musician with chamber music and teaching.


She has been part of the SHMF - Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival (Germany), the JONDE - Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (Spain), the NJO Nederlandse Jugend Orkest (The Netherlands) or the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester (Austria), among others.


Passionate about orchestra playing, she regularly works as Co-Principal flute with orchestras such as the Dutch National Ballet | Het Ballet Orkest of Amsterdam, the Dutch National Opera, the RPHO - Rotterdams Philharmonichs Orkest, the RFO - Nederlands Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, the OCNE - Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España and the Orquesta y Coro de Radio Televisión Española (RTVE). She has also collaborated with other orchestras, including the OCG - Orquesta Ciudad de Granada or the Orquesta de Córdoba, among others.

Her orchestral activity has led her to perform alongside renowned soloists such as Steven Isserlis, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Esther Yoo, Veronika Eberle, Javier Perianes or Amihai Grosz under the direction of prestigious conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach, David Afkham, Jaap van Zweden, Pablo González, Adam Fischer, Omer Meir Wellber, Lahav Shani, Krysztof Urbanski, Alexandre Bloch or Pablo Heras-Casado on some of the most important European stages such as the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam or the Konzerthaus Berlin, among others.

Additionally, during the 2018 - 2019 season, she served as a flute academist with the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada under the baton of Pablo Heras-Casado. Since 2021, she has been listed as an instrumentalist with the Orquesta Simfònica de les Illes Balears.


As a soloist, she has performed the «Concerto for Flute and Orchestra in D Major by Carl Reinecke» with the Orquesta de Córdoba, the «Concerto in D minor by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach» with the Orquesta Joven de Córdoba and the «Brandenburg Concerto no. 4 by Johann Sebastian Bach» with the Camerata Capricho Español.


Rocío has been awarded several national and international prizes such as the «XIX Ciclo de Jóvenes Intérpretes» in the Individual and Chamber Music category in Córdoba, Spain or the most recent prize at the «Prix d'Harmonie Competition» in The Netherlands, among others.

Additionally, she has been selected as a beneficiary of the «JONDE - Ferrer Salat» scholarships (Spain) and the «Magnus - Menko Fonds», Het Cultuurfonds (The Netherlands). 


Her dedication to teaching and connecting with musicians from diverse cultures has inspired her to share her knowledge in several countries.

In 2022, she participated as a flute teacher in the Project «Red de Orquestas y Coros de Panamá» in Panama (Central America).

In 2023, she collaborated as a flute teacher with the «Iberoacademy Foundation» in Colombia (South America). 


She completed her bachelor's degree with Prof. Saleta Suárez at the «CSM - Rafael Orozco», graduating with Cum laude honors. In 2016, Rocío was accepted into the «Barenboim - Said Foundation», where she combined her bachelor studies, working alongside Juan Ronda and Toni Hervás (flute and piccolo soloist of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla) and other international soloists. In 2017, Rocío won an exchange scholarship to study with Prof. Aldo Baerten (Principal flute at Antwerp Symphony Orchestra).

In 2019, she moved to the Netherlands, where she completed her master's studies in flute and piccolo under the guidance of Juliette Hurel (Principal Flute at Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest), Julie Moulin (Flute at Royal Concertgebouw Orkest), and Wim Steinmann (Former piccolo at Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest) at «Codarts University of the Arts».
